The West African Social Activities, or WASA, were hosted on January 21, 2023, at the Green Field Akim Barracks in Calabar by the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. Chief Host Brigadier General EI Okoro took advantage of the opportunity to thank the officers and troops of 13 Brigade for their perseverance, devotion, and resilience in completing all tasks and assignments over the course of the previous year.

He also values how 13 Brigade collaborates with other sister services and security organizations to carry out its goal of maintaining a largely secure and tranquil Cross River. He also honors God the Almighty with all of his accomplishments. He also respects the Barracks Youth Foundation, the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association, and the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association.

Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdulahi Dewu, the Special Guest of Honor and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command (FOC), expressed his satisfaction with the Brigade’s efforts in carrying out its mandate in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies to maintain security in Cross River State.

He continued by expressing his admiration for the Brigade’s efforts to successfully host such a sizable event in spite of the Brigade’s enormous duties, which range from preventing the incursion of militant Ambazonians across our international border with the Republic of Cameroon to battling other criminal activities throughout the state. He further urged the Brigade to maintain the same degree of professionalism as we approach the upcoming general election in 2023 and to remember that as members of the Armed Forces, we must maintain our apolitical nature and be governed by the code of conduct for elections in all our endeavors.

The Chief Staff Officer of Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral OA Oamen, the Command Operations Officer of Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Fadeyi, the Fleet Commander of Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral OO Soyemi, and the Deputy Commandant of Naval War College Nigeria were all in attendance. Along with them are a number of other well-wishers for the Brigade, including Maj. Gen. Sabo (Ret. ), Col. PAM Ogar (Ret.), Rear Adm. Ekpe, Brig. Gen. Ukagu (Ret.), officers in active duty and in retirement, as well as soldiers and their families.

The unit inspection, cultural dances, the tug of war, and medals given to meritorious staff members were among the event’s highlights.
