2023 AFRDC: Abia State Honours Fallen Heroes, Celebrates Armed Forces for Their Sacrifices

The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC) for the year 2023 was held at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph in Umuahia, Abia State, on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The vibrant celebration held in the state, honors Nigerian military personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice during numerous engagements to preserve the country’s peace, security, and unity.

The State Governor who is the Special Guest of Honor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, ably represented by his deputy, Right Honorable Udeh Oko Chukwu, recognizes the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during various operations to ensure the unity of our beloved country, as well as those made by their families, veterans, and active-duty personnel who never grow weary of performing their duties when necessary.

“We would continue to support and work in partnership with the families of the dead heroes, the legion, veterans, and the living.” the state governor added.

Right Honorable Udeh emphasizes the need to come to a decision and depart as one body. And to create our country for a better future, all well-meaning Nigerians, especially leaders in various positions, need to put their hands to work.

Prior to that, special Juma’at prayers were performed on January 6 at the Central Mosque and on January 8, 2023, at Saint Peter’s Presbyterian Church, both in Umuahia of Abia State.

The clergy advocated for a peaceful and unified Nigeria. offered particular prayers for their families, veterans, and the living as well as for the rest of their lives.

The ceremony included a colorful ceremonial procession, wreath-laying for dead soldiers, the playing of the final post, and the releasing of pigeons by the state governor, who stand for harmony, security, and peace in our beloved country.

At the ceremonial event, dignitaries included the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, who was effectively represented by his deputy, Right Honorable Udeh Oko Chukwu, the Commander of the 14th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi, the representative of the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Navy Captain MS Idris, the heads of other security agencies.
