Following complaints and findings on 3 Policemen based on video evidence of haughtiness, impolite behavior, and the misuse of firearms against some police officers from Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 1 Kano, as well as a subsequent orderly room trial of the affected police officers by the Force Provost Marshal, three officers from the SPU Base 1 Kano have been dismissed for the offenses of discreditable conduct, including the misuse of firearms.
The Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters in Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this announcement in a press release to the media.
The 3 Policemen Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi were assigned to escort a musician in Kano, according to Police PRO. The officers disregarded the police policy against firing into the air, standard operating procedure, and applicable Force Orders while performing their duties on Friday, April 7, 2023 in Kahutu Village, Katsina State. They also disregarded the potential risk to the crowd, which may have included children. The incident was embarrassing for the Force and the country as a whole in addition to being illegal and unprofessional.
The Nigeria Police Force today urges all officers to make sure they carry out their responsibilities in accordance with current laws to avoid breaking them and incurring the ensuing penalties. In order to make sure their personnel are familiar with all relevant standard operating procedures, supervising officers are also required to give them frequent and in-depth lectures.
