Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have recorded major breakthroughs in Taraba State under the ongoing Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta. The operations, conducted between 6 and 7 December 2025, resulted in the foiling of an armed robbery attack, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of illegal weapons.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, the troops deployed at Manya responded swiftly to a distress call on 6 December 2025. Armed robbers had barricaded the Manya–Takum Road, dispossessing commuters. The troops launched a rapid clearance mission, forcing the criminals to flee upon sighting the advancing forces. A search of the enclave led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Their timely action restored normal movement along the busy route.
In a separate incident on 7 December 2025, troops at Kufai Amadu rescued two abducted travellers from Bauchi State. The victims, unfamiliar with the area, were abducted after stopping to ask for directions in Amadu Town while heading to Baissa in Kurmi LGA. Responding to credible intelligence, troops launched an extensive search and rescue operation. Two of the abducted men, Mr. Yusuf Musa and Mr. Muhammed Umar, managed to escape and were recovered during the operation. Search efforts continue for the remaining victims, Mr. Musa Danji and Mr. Yusuf, as troops intensify efforts to apprehend the abductors.
Similarly, on 6 December 2025, troops deployed at Iware conducted an intelligence-led operation at Garin Sambo in Tau Village, Ardo Kola LGA. The operation led to the recovery of two pump-action rifles, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four Tecno mobile phones. Two suspects—Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda—were arrested and are currently in custody for further investigation.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism, gallantry, and swift actions. He reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to maintain aggressive operations aimed at eradicating criminal activities across Taraba State. He assured residents and travellers of heightened security measures throughout the Yuletide season, with troops securing major highways and vulnerable communities.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to aid security efforts across the state.
