The Deputy National Coordinator National Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) Maj-Gen EC Ekwesi has paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA).

The Deputy National Coordinator said, “The proliferation and storing of illicit weapons continue to threaten both national and international peace and security”. This according to him has aggravated the plight of civilians in strife-torn countries worldwide”.

Gen Ekwesi while narrating their mandate emphasized that “We have the mandates of removing all arms in the security agencies’ inventories that are unserviceable, as well as creating a database of all the arms in the custody of security agencies”.

While responding, the Commander TRADOC NA Maj Gen SO Olabanji assured the delegation of the continued support of the Command in realising their mandates. He then urged them to take this national assignment as a critical service to the nation.

The Commander was emphatic on the need to stop the production and proliferation of locally made small arms which pose serious national security threats. He suggested that, the technical experts can regulate and leverage on local skills to build on the existing technology for the production of small arms.

“I want to assure you the continued support of the Command in realising your mandate, I urged you to take this national assignment as a critical service to the nation”.

General Ekwsi was accompanied by the Zonal Coordinator, North Central. Maj-Gen HI Bature (Rtd) and other members of the organization.
