Corps Members have been advised to minimize unneeded trips, but if they must travel during the service year, they must get permission from the NYSC.

While speaking to the 2022 Batch “C”Stream Two Corps Members at Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko, Mrs. Christy Uba, Acting Director General of National Youth Service Corps, issued the warning.

According to her, any Corps Member who travels without authorization from NYSC will face consequences in accordance with the NYSC Bye-Laws. Uba also cautioned the Corps Members to stay away from the temptation of boarding vehicles by the roadside and to only board them from the specified motor parks.

Avoid taking free rides, don’t get on cars at the side of the road, and take care not to put your safety in jeopardy, she advised.

Further, Uba counseled the Corps Members to take advantage of the Orientation Course to forge inter-tribal ties that will further support a united and integrated country. She exhorted them to enthusiastically engage in all of the camp activities that have been planned for their general growth.

“Be ethical, careful, and try to prevent slacking. Throughout the service year, you must give discipline a high priority and make sure you have the appropriate intentions. Avoid social vices that could shorten your life, such as cults, cybercrime, drug abuse, and other vices “She furthered.

All services provided by NYSC are free, the Acting Director General told the Corps Members, adding that they should be wary of con artists who would try to take advantage of them by posting, redeploying, and using other free services offered by the Scheme. She pleaded with them to join the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program, which has helped many ex-Corps Members achieve self-sufficiency.

According to Uba, the proposed NYSC Trust Fund would help more Corps Members start their own businesses by making start-up capital available to worthy ones when they leave the service.

She further counseled the Corps Members to serve their country with a devotion, humility, and dedication. The Acting DG advised them to improve their host communities’ quality of life by carrying out projects that would do so.

While presenting his camp report to the acting director general, the NYSC Sokoto State Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammad Nakamba, revealed that a total of 639 Corps Members—221 men and 418 women—were enrolled in camp. The Corps Members have been cheerful and actively participating in all camp activities since they arrived at camp, he continued. He further stated that the camp has been following all COVID-19 safety guidelines established by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control.
