On December 20, 2022, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) held an auction in Ilorin, Kwara State, for seven vehicles that were the subject of final forfeiture orders.
The auction procedure began on Monday, December 19, 2022, with the automobiles being displayed for public inspection at No. 11, Catchment Road, next to the Noktel Hotel, GRA, Ilorin. This gave bidders the chance to examine and express interest in any car of their choice.
The EFCC (Establishment) Act of 2004, the Public Procurement Act of 2007, and the Proceeds of Crimes (Recovery and Management) Act of 2022 were all followed during the exercise, which is a continuation of the auction currently going place across the Commission’s Commands.
Lexus IS350 2007 model, Toyota Venza 2010, White Mercedes Benz 2007 model, Gold Porsche 2005 model, Red Toyota Camry 2008 model, Grey Honda Accord 2007 model, and Ash Toyota Camry 2009 model are the vehicles that will be auctioned.
The EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Command Commander, ACE II Michael Nzekwe, made a statement before to the auction in which he urged buyers to pay close attention to the auctioneers’ instructions and follow all set rules to ensure a smooth transaction.
He reaffirmed the fairness of the agreement and the Commission’s resolve to make the process transparent.
Speaking after the auction, Agbetola Ismail, who had won a Mercedes Benz 2007 model, expressed his joy at having been the lucky winner. He commended the EFCC for ensuring that the procedure was open and honest.
Joshua Bamidele Afolayan, the secretary of auctioneers for the state of Kwara, remarked, “I was here yesterday during the inspection and today we came back for the auction exercise, and it was extremely well organized.”
He commended the EFCC for managing the auction process in the most professional manner possible and advised other government agencies to follow its lead.
Musa Aliyu, a representative of civil society organizations, also praised the procedure for being “flawless and transparent” and urged other government agencies to follow suit.
The auctioneers provided equal chance for everyone to place a public bid, and it was transparent. There was no intimidation. I must also applaud the EFCC for its publicity because today’s attendance was demonstrative of a well-publicized exercise, he remarked.
