The 3 Division Nigerian Army has inaugurated the Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition 2023, which commenced on July 10, 2023, at the 82 Battalion parade ground in Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos. The week-long event, hosted by 3 Division Garrison, aims to enhance the capacity and professional competence of troops in fulfilling their constitutional duties.

The opening ceremony, graced by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar, highlighted the importance of continuous training in the face of current security challenges in the country. The competition seeks to improve regimentation, leadership qualities, and the employment of initiatives among warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers. The GOC also emphasized the positive impact of healthy rivalry among the participating troops.

Representing the GOC, Brigadier General David Kurmi, the Chief of Staff Headquarters 3 Division, revealed that the Nigerian Army has recently intensified training through competitive events aligned with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff. The participants were encouraged to utilize the competition as an opportunity to enhance resilience and develop the necessary skills to overcome future challenges. This vision aligns with the overarching goal of 3 Division, focusing on readiness, synergy, and excellence.

In his welcome address, Brigadier General MO Agi, the Commander of 3 Division Garrison, highlighted the significance of the Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition 2023 in further consolidating the Division’s recent achievements in combating various forms of criminal activities within and beyond its area of responsibility. He expressed gratitude to the GOC and Commander OPSH for their support in organizing the event and emphasized the importance of fostering camaraderie and mutual learning among the participants.

The competition features six brigades under the 3 Division Area of Responsibility, including 6 Brigade Jalingo, 23 Brigade Yola, 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, 3 Division Garrison, 43 Engineer Brigade, and 53 Signal Brigade Jos. The competing formations will demonstrate their skills in weapon handling, drills, map reading, swimming, endurance, and obstacle crossing, among others.

The competition is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, July 13, 2023, with trophies and gifts being presented to the winners, showcasing their exceptional performance and dedication to excellence in their duties
