Governor Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has announced a strategic partnership between the Plateau State Government and the Nigerian Army (NA), along with other security agencies in the state, in an effort to restore Plateau State to its former glory as a haven of peace and a thriving tourist destination. The announcement was given on July 13, 2023, at the conclusion of the 3 Division Inter-Formations Warrant Officers and Senior Non-commissioned Officers Competition.

As the event’s special guest of honor, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to aiding security forces in their efforts to maintain a stable peace and allow the residents of Plateau State to benefit from democratic rights. He thanked the soldiers of the 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN for their essential contribution to the stabilization of the state.

Mr. Stephen Pam, the Permanent Secretary for Security, spoke on behalf of the governor and praised the Nigerian Army for its history of holding significant training exercises through competitions. He emphasized how these activities cultivate the qualities of sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork that are necessary for successfully completing military missions.

In his welcome speech, Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Division NA and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), emphasized the importance of consistent training of people to solve the current security issues confronted not only in Nigeria but also globally. The competition, he said, intended to improve the abilities of warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers, who act as the field troops’ closest leaders.

Brigadier General David Kurmi, Chief of Staff Headquarters 3 Division, thanked Major General TA Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, on behalf of the GOC and Commander OPSH, for his assistance to the division. He emphasized the significance of their professional conduct in tackling current security problems as he urged the troops to remain determined, devoted, and unwavering in their constitutional tasks.

Brigadier General Micheal Agi, the commander of the 3 Division Garrison, praised the competitors for their outstanding behavior, professional demeanor, and unwavering fervor throughout the competition during the closing ceremony. He expressed his gratitude to the GOC and Commander OPSH for their leadership, support, and availability of essential tools for the event’s effective execution.

Six units took part in the competition, with 3 Division Garrison coming out on top overall. 23 Brigade Yola came in second, and 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi came in third.

A tug-of-war competition between paramilitary security services in Plateau State was held to round off the occasion and show off their camaraderie and unity. Trophies were also given to the winning teams and individuals who competed with extraordinary abilities and commitment.

The restoration of Plateau State’s previous grandeur as a land of peace and tourism offers enormous potential for its citizens and visitors alike thanks to this partnership between the Plateau State Government and the Nigerian Army, as well as the ongoing dedication of security agencies.
