Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director Defence Information (DDI), has asked media outlets to report occurrences by the Nigerian Armed Forces swiftly and fairly. During his familiarization tour to media outlets in Lagos as part of his efforts to identify and further solidify the already cordial relationship with the media in Nigeria since entering office, the Defense Spokesman made this statement.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, speaking on behalf of Acting Director Defense Information General Gusau, said that the CDS had reaffirmed his commitment to protecting all Nigerians’ lives from all forms of violence, especially during the upcoming general elections in 2023. He also expressed gratitude to the media for its favorable coverage of the activities of the armed forces.
The DDI appeared on Arise Television, Silver Bird Television, Television Continental, and Channels Television to commend the media organizations for their objectivity and positive portrayals of the Nigerian Armed Forces on behalf of the CDS. The management of the media outlets in Lagos thanked the defense spokesman for the visit and stated their desire and guarantee to cooperate with the military to ensure peaceful elections in the sake of preserving national security, unification, and progress in their various responses.
The Acting Director Defence Information explained that his visit was motivated by the significance of the media’s coverage of military operations and the forthcoming elections when he paid a courtesy call on Major-General Christopher Ajunwa, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army. He pleaded with military members who would be on duty during the elections to uphold their neutrality and abide by the laws of war.
