The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) sponsors the Counter-Terrorism Counter-Insurgency (CTCOIN) seminar every two years as a component of the junior course curriculum. The goal of the two-day seminar is to improve the students’ understanding of multi-agency operations in an environment of asymmetric threat.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1Div NA, Major General OT Akinjobi, was the Special Guest of Honor (SGOH) at the event today, Friday, June 2, 2023, and was welcomed to the Faruk Yahaya Auditorium, where the CTCOIN seminar was being held, by the Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Alu Wonah.

The theme of the seminar, “Importance of Joint CTCOIN Training for Operational Efficiency at the Tactical Level,” is pertinent, according to AVM Wonah, given the current engagement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in battling a variety of asymmetric threats facing the country.

He further emphasized that the conference will help the officers perform their duties during Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operations successfully.

He urged the Student Officers and other attendees to wisely utilize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and support the growth of the country’s Armed Forces’ next generation.

The SGOH, Major General Akinjobi, stated in his presentation that the seminar was appropriate and opportune given the significant roles the Armed Forces and other security agencies play in addressing the security challenges in the nation.

He revealed that effective counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency involves a wide range of issues, including good governance, population security, and strong economic development measures. He said all of these must be supported by robust information operations that unify and drive other activities, including military activities.

He gave the officers the instruction to do just that—to take the seminar’s contents seriously and hold them near to their hearts. Last but not least, he applauded the Commandant’s efforts in planning the seminar and upholding the high standards that the College is known for.
