On January 15, 2023, at the World War 1 and 2 Cenotaph in Lokoja, Kogi State, a colorful parade was held to commemorate the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC). A very large crowd attended the yearly ceremony held on January 15 to honor Nigerian Armed Forces personnel who have died in the line of duty as well as those who are still alive.
The laying of wreaths by the Special Guest of Honor, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and other dignitaries, signing of the remembrance register, and releasing of the ceremonial pigeons, which represent peace, unity, hope, and prosperity for our dear Nation Nigeria and Kogi State, were among the event’s major highlights.

The Kogi State Police Commissioner, CP Akeem Yusuf, the State Director of the Department of State Services, Mr. Tosin Anahi, Sector Command Federal Road Safety, Commandant Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, His Royal Highness, the Attah of Igala, and a representative of the widows from the Nigerian armed forces were among the numerous dignitaries who also attended the historic event.
Speaking shortly after the march, Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello gave the military the reassurance that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that the military fulfilled its original mission, which was to protect and uphold the nation’s peace.
He said, “because without them peace would be illusive, we must always acknowledge them for their ultimate sacrifice to the country,” while commending and praising the fallen heroes for giving their lives to preserve the nation and ensure peace.
