After 7 Years of Closure, Zulum Re-opens Gamboru International Cattle Market Bordering Cameroon

The Gamboru International Cattle Market, which had been shuttered for over 7 years, was reopened by Governor Babagana Zulum on Saturday. In the Borno State border town of Gamboru, the market is located within Borno Central’s Ngala Local Government Area.

The market had to close on numerous occasions due to Boko Haram insurgency attacks throughout the years, as may be remembered.

Zulum, who is now in Ngala LGA for two days of humanitarian work, reopened the market alongside Hon. Mala Tijjani, the Chairman of the Ngala Local Government Area, and Lt.-Col. Tolu Adedokun, the Commanding Officer of the 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army (NA).

The governor expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, the whole Nigerian military, the police, the Department of State Security (DSS), and other paramilitary security organizations for liberating and securing several Borno State locations so that the market could be reopened.

The Governor did, however, issue a warning to cattle traders not to ever encourage or support criminal groups who take advantage of the market to undermine security advancements.

Saina Buba, the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, Sports Development, and Poverty Alleviation in Borno, who also serves as the chair of the cattle management committee set up by Governor Zulum, mentioned that, prior to its closure, Gamboru Market served as a transit point for the daily export of 500–800 herds of cattle to the neighboring countries.

According to the commissioner, the market was a daily source of income for thousands of individuals in Gamboru and the nearby towns, both directly and indirectly.

The Department of State Security, the military, the police, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps are all represented on the 10-person management council for Buba.
