The troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Air Component Operation Whirl Punch struck a devastating blow to criminal elements as part of the ongoing campaign against banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and other criminal activities in the country’s North Western region.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the 1 Division Nigerian Army’s Deputy Director Army Public Relations, in an operation that lasted for about 48 hours, troops cleared the Manini-Kuriga, Farin Ruwa, Kwanan Yashi, Makera, Dogon Dawa-Maidaro, road Kidanda-Yadi Forest, and Sabon Birnin areas in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area and Dogon-Dawa-Kid During the incident, troops engaged the outlaws with powerful and superior weaponry, neutralizing 4 bandits while others fled with gunshot wounds while seizing an AK-47 rifle with 20 rounds of 7.62mm Special. The military went ahead and destroyed all of the bandits’ enclaves, properties, and the stolen motorcycles in their efforts to permanently expel the bandit and make the general area uninhabitable for all outlaws.
Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, who is also the Force Commander for Operation Whirl Punch and the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, expressed his delight with how the soldiers conducted themselves throughout the operation and praised them for their bravery and tenacity. Additionally, he exhorted all law-abiding residents to keep providing the military and other security organizations with accurate and reliable intelligence. In addition, he urged the general public, in particular health care providers and paramedics, to keep an eye out for anyone who may be seeking medical assistance for gunshot wounds and respectfully report such cases to the appropriate security organizations.
