AIG Umar Mamman Sanda Pays Familiarization Visit to State Police Command, Emphasizes Open-Door Policing and Professionalism

On July 10th, 2023, the newly appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) for Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano, AIG Umar Mamman Sanda, fdc, paid a familiarization visit to the Kano State Police Command. During his visit, he interacted with officers and men of the command, emphasizing the importance of open-door policing, integrity, and professionalism in their duties.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, expressed his gratitude to Allah and warmly welcomed AIG Umar Mamman Sanda. He acknowledged the security challenges faced by the command, particularly the issue of mobile phone armed robbery and threats of kidnapping in certain border communities. CP Gumel highlighted the command’s efforts in tackling these challenges through effective policing strategies, community engagement, visibility, and intelligence-led policing. He proudly announced a significant reduction in mobile phone armed robbery cases across the state, with only two reported in the past month.

During his interaction with the officers and men of the Kano State Police Command, AIG Umar Mamman Sanda commended the Commissioner of Police for his commitment to maintaining a safe environment in Kano State. He expressed his appreciation to the officers for their community policing efforts, collaboration with sister security agencies, and their dedication to combating crime. AIG Sanda urged the officers to uphold open-door policing, reject all forms of corruption, and exhibit a high level of professionalism in their daily tasks.

Furthermore, the AIG directed the command’s management team, heads of departments, area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical commanders to continue mentoring and supervising their subordinates effectively. He encouraged them to provide guidance and support to their teams in order to enhance the overall performance of the command. AIG Sanda concluded his visit by expressing his well wishes for the officers’ success in their future endeavors.

State Police Command

The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to AIG Umar Mamman Sanda by the Commissioner of Police as a token of appreciation. The familiarization visit served as an opportunity for the AIG to strengthen the bond between the command and its leadership, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Kano State.
