Army Clears Air on the Missing Female Lieutenant, Says the Abducted Officer Not Yet Rescued

The Nigerian Army has been made aware of some social media posts suggesting the release of Lieutenant PP Johnson, a female officer who was kidnapped on December 26, 2022, while visiting her grandmother in Aku-Okigwe, Imo state. This incident occurred shortly after Lieutenant Johnson had completed her cadet training and been commissioned into the Nigerian Army.

In a statement, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu added that a video of Army officer’s kidnapping had surfaced on social media, with her kidnappers claiming that it was part of their struggle for Biafra against the Nigerian State. It is telling that the officer’s status as a woman and a South Eastern Nigerian citizen did not stop her captors from degrading her in their callous attempt to commit atrocities while pretending to be fighting for Biafra.

Evidently, this serves as yet another indicator of the numerous crimes that IPOB/ESN are allegedly committing against Ndigbo, the people they claim to be fighting for their independence.

Therefore, it should be abundantly clear to anyone who may still be confused about the true nature of these organizations, that IPOB/ESN are terrorist organizations disguising themselves as freedom fighters, and they do not merit the support of anyone, especially the good people of South East Nigeria.

The Nigerian Army wants to clarify that the rumors are unfounded because the officer hasn’t been freed or rescued from her captors. The video footage that is being shared and linked to the rescue story is also an old clip of a suspect that was earlier apprehended by military.

As much as we value the public’s concern and goodwill for her safe rescue, we also want to point out that the Nigerian Army did not provide the information on the officer’s rescue.

The Nigerian Army would stop at nothing to save the officer and bring those responsible to justice. We make an appeal to the public for trustworthy information that could result in her safe rescue and the capture of the criminals.
