An Operations Monitoring Team led by the Chief of Doctrine, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major-General Henry Wesley, visited Guards Brigade troops operating in collaboration with other sister security agencies at the Forward Operations Base, Kwali, as part of an assessment visit to Army Headquarters to determine progress and achievement recorded by the Guards Brigade in the war against bandits and criminality within the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
The Army HQs team’s visit aims to evaluate the security advancements made in the Federal Capital and its surroundings, particularly as the general elections of 2023 approach.
Speaking to the various heads of the security agencies taking part in the exercise, which began earlier in October 2022, at the Operations Base, Major-General Wesley said that the collective cooperation and synergy between the Army and the different agencies taking part in the joint operations has undoubtedly contributed to Exercise Enduring Peace’s enormous success.
The Guards Brigade Nigerian Army was praised by General Wesley for being extremely proactive in addressing the perceived security dangers around specific enclaves by snuffing them out through forceful combined operations.
In addition, the General emphasized that the Army Brigade’s personnel could not have accomplished as much without the assistance of other stakeholders and that the synergy between the various organizations must continue in order to bring about the country’s desired Enduring Peace.
While briefing the team earlier, the Brigade’s Acting Chief of Staff, Lt Col Olumide Akingbesote, who also serves as the Commanding Officer of the 176 Guards Battalion Nigerian Army, said the Brigade has also continued to engage in confidence-building projects as part of the Non-Kinetic phase, which has produced positive results.
When he recently assumed charge, he promised the team that he was committed to strengthening the positive relationships already in place between the Army, the locals and other stakeholders.
The tour of the camp and the stops at several checkpoints along the Giri Abuja road were the highlights of the trip.
