International Day

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) hosted an International Day Celebration for the Course 7/2023 participants in Abuja on May 6, 2023 as part of its efforts to highlight the diversity of the world’s cultures and the critical importance of intercultural dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development.

Major General AA Fayemiwo, the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), the Special Guest of Honor, noted that cultural diversity is a driving force for development, not only for economic growth but also for leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral, and spiritual life. As he toured the various stands, he expressed his appreciation for the information provided on the history and activities of the various allied nations.

The Chief of Army Staff’s vision for the Nigerian Army, according to General Fayemiwo, would undoubtedly benefit greatly from their sacrifices made in realizing and maintaining the college’s vision. He thanked the Commandant, Members of the Faculty, and Staff of the college for their efforts.

The International Day event is one of the events planned for the AWCN Course 7/2023, according to the Commandant of the AWCN, Maj Gen Bamidele Alabi. He also mentioned the idea of including officers from Nigeria’s friendly nations in order to broaden the engagement of the AWCN and foster the cross-fertilization of ideas required in professional military education.

General Alabi reaffirmed that 16 allied officers have graduated from the college, and that it has continued to accept students from friendly countries.

The International Day Celebration, he continued, gives the participants the chance to introduce their nations to their Nigerian hosts while also enjoying the opportunity to view the cultural history of Nigeria’s six distinct geographic regions on display alongside their own. He thus exhorts the participants to take advantage of the chance to learn as much as they can about the cultural legacy of the participating allied officers and that of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The Commandant expressed his gratitude to COAS Lieutenant General F Yahaya, who is also the chairman of the AWCN Governing Board, for his tireless efforts in responding to the numerous requests from the institution.

International Day

74 people from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force as well as participants from the Gambia, Liberia, Morocco, the Republic of Benin, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, and the Niger Republic are taking the course.

The giving of mementos to the invited guests and cultural displays were the event’s highlights.
