The Nigerian Army has issued warnings to criminal elements and fifth columnists to abstain from heinous actions that might have a threat to National Integrity.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Faruk Yahaya, issued the warning on April 3, 2023, as he declared open the COAS First Quarter Conference 2023 at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja, according to a statement given to journalists by Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director Army Public Relations.
The Army Chief emphasized that the conference offered a suitable setting for field commanders to interact with and evaluate NA operations during the first quarter of the year in order to propose practical strategies to enhance soldiers’ performance in ongoing operations across the nation.
The implementation of important choices made at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2022 in Sokoto, according to General Yahaya, was crucial to the extraordinary success the NA experienced in the first three months of the year.
The COAS noted some of the modest accomplishments of the NA in the first quarter of 2023 and said that respectable national and international organizations had deemed NA soldiers’ performance during Operation SAFE CONDUCT to be acceptable.
The operationalization of maneuver brigades across the nation, improved Civil Military Cooperation efforts to win hearts and minds, infrastructure development across NA formations, the purchase of modern platforms and improved training aids, the establishment of the Department of Personnel Management to oversee soldiers’ careers, and many other accomplishments were also mentioned by the COAS.
According to General Yahaya, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries reported that the effort of the troops, working with sister services and other security agencies, gradually increased crude oil output to about 1.3 million barrels per day. In the northeast, a significant number of BH/ISWAP terrorists have surrendered as a consequence of the troops’ commitment, he continued, categorically denying terrorists and insurgents their freedom of action. He praised NA officers and members for accomplishing the extraordinary achievement and urged them to keep going strong. The COAS thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for serving as the commander in chief of the Nigerian armed forces and for providing effective leadership.
Major General Anthony Omozoje, the Chief of Policy and Plan (Army), said earlier in his welcome speech that conscious efforts had been made to put many of the decisions made at the most recent COAS Annual Conference in Sokoto into action. He stated that the military’s visionary leadership and the soldiers’ collective dedication and professional attitude were responsible for the operational successes so far.
The COAS then gave 14 brand-new Toyota Hilux cars to Army Warrant Officers who had reached the highest rank in the military. The Faruk Yahaya Historical Park in Manbilla Barracks, Asokoro Abuja, was also inaugurated by the Army Chief. The NA’s research and development efforts were also on display at the meeting in an exhibition.
