The Ahmed Maigero Theater in Sokoto State hosted the grand finale of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration 2023 on January 15, 2023. This annual event honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in the defense of our beloved country, Nigeria, and the entire world—our fallen heroes—by holding a celebration in their honor.

These brave men and women sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping operations, and numerous internal security operations, including the ongoing struggle against insurgency, terrorism, and banditry among other national security threats. An additional opportunity presented by this occasion is to pay tribute to living veterans.

Reveille,-wreath-laying, 21-gun salute, prayers for the fallen heroes, playing of the final post, and a minute of silence were all performed in memory of the fallen heroes at the end of the event.

In addition, the release of the pigeons, which represent the peace and unity of our beloved nation Nigeria and Sokoto State, by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Right Honorable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was the Special Guest of Honor, was also performed.

Assuring that the children of slain heroes receive the greatest education is part of Governor Tambuwal’s renewed commitment to helping the families of the lost heroes.

Governor Tambuwal continued by saying that both the welfare of the living and the deceased would be taken care of. He exhorts military personnel to exert every reasonable effort in addressing the nation’s security issues.

The Governor continued, “My government will provide all necessary support to help the continuing military operations to put an end to banditry in the State.”

Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Honorable Aminu Achida, Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Mohammed Saidu Sifawa, General Officer Commanding 8 Division/CJTF (NW), Major-General UU Bassey, Commander of 119 Composite Group, Air-Commodore ES Odekina, Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ussaini Gumel, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Sokoto State Chapter, Sgt. Aliyu Muhammad.
