Brigadier-General Aminu Umar has been appointed as the new commander of the Headquarters Brigade of Guards following the recent movement of top commanders across NA units. As the new General Officer Commanding, he succeeded Major-General Muhammed Takuti Usman, who had been transferred to 2 Division NA as GOC.
Major-General Muhammed Takuti Usman thanked the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their support, loyalty, and commitment throughout his tour of duty in his remarks at the Handing and Taking-Over ceremony at the Brigade Conference Room on January 20, 2023, and asked for the same and more support to allow his successor to carry out his assigned task of securing the FCT and its environs while protecting the Presidency and entire Villa security.
To the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Usman expressed his gratitude for all of his support and the chance to work with him while he was the Commander of the Guards Brigade. He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen Faruk Yahaya, for giving him the chance to serve the country once more by giving him a new area of responsibility as a General Officer Commanding.
In response, Brigadier-General Aminu Umar, the new commander of the Guards Brigade, expressed gratitude to the outgoing commander for his foresight and accomplishments in the fields of security and development and pledged to carry on the excellent traditions. He reaffirmed his commitment to building on the accomplishments of his predecessor and reassured the brigade’s leaders and soldiers that everyone is responsible for bringing the Brigade forward. The turning over of the Brigade flag of authority to the new commander, the decorating of the Commander with the Brigade Insignia, and the signature of the Handing and Taking over note were the highlights of the ceremony. Officers from the Brigade, including the Commanding Officers, were present, along with the civilian staff.
