The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has Mrs. Christy Uba as its acting director while the government appoints a permanent head, pending a new appointment by President Buhari. This is according to a statement released to journalists in Abuja by NYSC spokesperson Eddy Megwa on November 22, 2022.
Remember that the Director NYSC Brigadier-General Mohammed Fadah, who was in charge of the scheme, was fired by President Buhari on November 18, 2022. This came barely six months after he took over from his predecessor.
General Fadah was appointed the NYSC director in May 2022, before his removal after the alleged misconduct. When he took over office. he promised to enhance staff welfare, and corps member security including NYSC venture profits which were all part of his intentions for the program.
Additionally, his aims also included “continuing to digitalize the scheme’s operations” and “deepening NYSC’s impact on rural development through community development service.” which few or non were implemented. Uba was requested by authorities to take over the program because she was the most senior officer, according to the statement made public on Tuesday announcing her position.
The statement read, Following the removal of Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah from the position of Director General, National Youth Service Corps by President Buhari, Mrs Christy Uba, Director, Information and Communications Technology, has taken over the leadership of the Corps in the capacity of Overseer, pending the appointment of a substantive Director General by Mr. President.
