The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has received praise by Canadian Minister for its tenacity in clearing the Lake Chad Basin region of any remaining BH/ISWAP terrorists.

The Chief Military Public Information Officer MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Kamarudeen Adegoke, made this declaration in a press release to the media. On Saturday, May 27, 2023, Mr. Harjit Singh Sajjan, Canada’s Minister of International Development and head of the Pacific Economic Development Agency, presented the commendation during a courtesy visit to the MNJTF’s headquarters in N’Djamena.

While adding that recent operations had curbed the excesses of the BH/ISWAP Terrorists, Mr. Sajjan stated that the MNJTF has made significant contributions to bringing peace and security to the region.

He commended the MNJTF leadership for its strong and decisive strategy, which he claimed translated into the force’s operations, which were focused on putting an end to terrorists’ activities.

Before the minister and his entourage arrived, Brig Gen Assoualai Blama, the Deputy Force Commander of the MNJTF, thanked them for coming and promised that the force would not give up on its mission to put an end to terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad region. He added that the idea of non-kinetic actions carried out by the MNJTF was one of the techniques used to combat terrorism, and he claimed that these efforts have been successful.

The minister had the chance to interact with the MNJTF leadership and share ideas on how to further increase the joint task force’s effectiveness during the visit. The Canadian Minister of Defense thanked the MNJTF’s members for their devotion and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to working with them in the fight against terrorism. In order to address the underlying causes of extremism and advance peace and development in the Lake Chad Basin region, he underlined the significance of group efforts and international cooperation.

The minister’s trip to the Multinational Joint Task Force headquarters brought home the importance of international collaboration in thwarting terrorists and promoting regional stability. Canada’s acknowledgement of and support for the MNJTF underlined the international commitment to combating terrorism and fostering peace in areas racked by violence.
