General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has reiterated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s determination to maintain its operational tempo and posture during both internal and foreign military deployments. During his Christmas Luncheon with Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) troops in Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto, on Thursday, December 26, 2024, the CDS emphasized the Armed Forces’ ongoing efforts to counter security threats and maintain national stability.

General Musa highlighted how the soldiers, especially those participating in OPFY, embody the timeless ideals of love, solidarity, and selflessness. He praised them for their efforts and unflinching commitment to national security. He said that in spite of the difficulties, the soldiers’ dedication to their work is an example of the spirit of patriotism that is necessary to overcome the country’s security issues.

In addition, the CDS mentioned how the Special Operations Brigade and combat enablers were recently successfully deployed to eradicate the Lakurawas terrorists’ resurgence in Sokoto and Kebbi states. He emphasized that these achievements demonstrate the Armed Forces’ commitment to addressing security concerns.

General Musa asked the troops to stay determined and committed to conquering Nigeria’s obstacles in 2025. In order to guarantee the success of ongoing activities, he pledged resources and support. During the event, he also paid respects to departed colleagues who gave their lives in duty and visited the Wounded-in-Action troops at the 8 Division Military Services and Hospital.

General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, thanked the CDS for his continuous support of the troops’ operational preparedness, morale, and welfare in his welcome speech. He underlined that his dedication to eradicating insecurity in the Northwest and across Nigeria is reflected in the CDS’s visits to the operational theatre.

Among other dignitaries who attended the occasion were the chiefs of many security agencies in Sokoto State, Principal Staff Officers from the Defence and Services Headquarters, and a representative of His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto.
