The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, joined the 2023 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Ibadan, where he inspected the ongoing projects at the new Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Ajia Community. The event, which coincided with the 160th anniversary of the Nigerian Army, showcased various weapons and equipment in the Nigerian Army’s arsenal, along with impressive parades and physical training displays.

During the event, NAF C-130 aircraft and Mi-117 helicopters were utilized to provide airlift support for rappelers and paratroopers from the Nigerian Army, demonstrating their skills, courage, and professionalism. The seamless coordination and synergy between NAF aircrew and Nigerian Army troops showcased their joint commitment to national security.

In addition to participating in NADCEL activities, the Chief of Air Staff took the opportunity to inspect the ongoing construction projects at the new NAF Base in Ajia Community, Ibadan. The NAF had acquired a 58-hectare land in the community in April 2022, generously donated by the Oyo State Government. The establishment of this permanent NAF Base aims to enhance the readiness and responsiveness of the Nigerian Air Force to security challenges in the state.

Situated near the Ibadan Airport, the new NAF Base will not only serve as a strategic operational hub but also provide an alternate airfield to the busy Lagos airfield. This strategic advantage will enable the NAF to conduct seamless and efficient air operations in the Southwest Region of Nigeria, contributing to enhanced security and defense capabilities in the area.

The inspection of the ongoing projects demonstrates the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to expanding its infrastructure and capabilities. The new NAF Base in Ibadan will play a vital role in supporting regional security operations and strengthening the overall defense architecture of the country.

Celebration

By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure, the Nigerian Air Force continues to demonstrate its determination to effectively address security challenges and maintain a high level of operational readiness. The completion of the new NAF Base will further enhance the NAF’s capacity to respond to emerging threats and contribute to the overall security and stability of the Southwest Region.
