Chief of Army Staff Inaugurates People-Centric Projects At 6 Division Garrison

COAS’ “Soldier First Philosophy” Inspires Bold Interventions In Troop Welfare, Discipline, And Operational Readiness

The “Soldier First Philosophy” of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, continues to resonate across the Nigerian Army (NA), finding strong expression in Port Harcourt Barracks where Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander 6 Division Garrison, has redefined welfare through bold, people-centred projects under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah.

Inaugurated by the COAS, the interventions reflect his command philosophy of sound administration, unwavering discipline, and uncompromising welfare. Brigadier General Ahmed’s initiatives have not only improved living conditions but also strengthened operational capacity, underscoring the inseparable bond between troop welfare and combat effectiveness.

At the heart of these achievements are two newly constructed blocks of 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs) and the remodelling of seven additional CBQs. These modern, dignified homes demonstrate the Army’s commitment to ensuring that soldiers’ families — the foundation of their morale — live in a conducive and befitting environment.

Further advancing community renewal, Brigadier General Ahmed remodelled the Cantonment Office, transforming it into a hub for welfare administration, personnel management, and community engagement. The upgrade has created a central point where soldiers and their families are better served, promoting harmony, unity, and trust within the Barracks community.

In pursuit of discipline anchored on fairness and dignity, he also constructed an ultra-modern Guard Room built in line with global best practices. This balances firmness with humanity, ensuring discipline is maintained while respecting the dignity of every soldier.

Operational efficiency also received a major boost with the establishment of a new Petrol, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) dispensing point, which has significantly cut refuelling time, enhanced maintenance efficiency, and guaranteed swift deployment and resilience, hallmarks of a mission-ready force.

Each of these projects is a bold testament to the COAS’ vision that “the strength of the Nigerian Army lies in its people.” Brigadier General Ahmed has translated this creed into tangible reality in Port Harcourt Barracks, proving that when the soldier comes first, excellence follows.

Through foresight and dedication, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed has uplifted troop welfare and fortified the operational spirit of the Garrison, giving life to the enduring essence of the “Soldier First” philosophy.
