On Friday, July 7, 2023, Vice Admiral MA Adelanwa GCON (Rtd), the previous Chief of the Naval Staff, received a visit from Rear Admiral EI Ogalla AM, the current Chief of the Naval Staff, in Lagos.

Vice Admiral Adelanwa was shown admiration and respect by Rear Admiral Ogalla during the visit, who also recognized his illustrious service and achievements to the Nigerian Navy. The encounter gave the current Chief of Naval Staff the chance to consult with his predecessor and benefit from his wealth of knowledge and experience.

Vice Admiral Adelanwa’s kind welcome and helpful suggestions were acknowledged by Rear Admiral Ogalla. The former commander in chief voiced trust in the capabilities of the Chief to lead the Navy to greater heights.

The friendly visit represented continuity, unity, and a close tie between naval officers. As former and current leaders gathered to share ideas and experiences, it underlined the comradery and mutual support that exist within the Nigerian Navy.

Vice Admiral Adelanwa’s visit from the Chief brought home the value of mentoring and the crucial part senior commanders play in determining the direction of the Nigerian Navy. It also showed how determined the current leadership is to absorb the knowledge and perceptions of individuals who have held prestigious positions in the past.
