Residents of the Buguma Community have been instructed to make the greatest use of the medical equipment presented to the community health center and the renovated Asalga Nursery and Primary School by Lieutenant-General Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The COAS delivered the address as he dedicated and turned over the renovated Asalga nursery and primary school as well as medical supplies for the neighborhood health center.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Ag. Deputy Director Iweha Ikedichi of the Army Public Relations 6 Division Nigerian Army, the COAS, who was represented by General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe Major-General Jamal Abdussalam, said it was indeed satisfying to see that the projects would directly affect the lives of community members. He continued by saying that Major-General Tonye Numbere, an accomplished son of the Buguma Community, was honored by the projects’ placement in the neighborhood since the Nigerian Army was aware of the immense support and goodwill it has from all across the country and Buguma in particular.

The Army Chief claimed that he made a conscious effort to guarantee that he returned to society what it had given him in the form of collaboration by engaging in corporate social responsibility and offering social safety nets to those in need. He continued by saying that it is crucial to make sure the army maintains good links with the general public and host communities in order to fulfill his goal, which is to have a professional Nigerian Army prepared to carry out assigned missions in a joint environment for Nigeria’s defense.

Major-General Tonye Numbere, Chairman Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Army Post Housing Limited, also spoke at the commissioning ceremony. He said that the selection of the projects was made with the intention of giving young people and future generations hope and having a significant impact on the general populace. In order to impart occupational skills to as many students who would access it, a skill acquisition center was purposefully established to the school, he said.

Major-General Numbere utilized the occasion to thank the COAS for the honor bestowed upon him and to request the help of the local Buguma population in order to advance and improve the architectural landscape of the neighborhood.

The Chief of Army Staff was commended by Honorable Onengiyeofori George, Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area Council, for the honor bestowed on the neighborhood by acknowledging one of their sons’ service in the Nigerian Army. He characterized the initiatives as essential to any Community’s growth.

The commissioning of the projects and their transfer to the community leader, together with the distribution of mementos and group photos, were the ceremony’s highlights.
