Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, the Nigerian Army’s Chief of Army Staff, has ordered the administration of Utoka Secondary School to make sure that the school’s renovated classroom block, newly built science lab, and borehole are given the proper care. The comment was delivered by COAS on April 14, 2023, at a ceremony honoring Maj. Gen. FO Omoigui, the Chief of Defence Simulation, that saw the commissioning of special intervention projects by the Nigerian Army at Utoka Secondary School in the Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Nigerian Army pays very close attention to the Non-Kinetic lines of Operation by making sure that it has good and cordial relationships with the general public and, in fact, the host communities where the military operations are conducted, according to the COAS, who was ably represented by the Commandant Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport. He believed that in order to win over the hearts and minds of the host community, it was necessary to reconstruct a block of classrooms and build a well-equipped science laboratory at the Utoka village.

In a related speech, the Honourable Commissioner for Education of the State of Edo, Mrs. Joan Osa Oviawe, who was skillfully represented by the Board Secretary of the Senior Secondary Education Board, Mr. Osawe Osagie, thanked the Nigerian Army for honoring Maj. Gen. FO Omoigui, a son of the community, by renovating and building a new science lab for Utoka Secondary School. She gave the school her word that more science teachers would be hired to staff the recently built science lab.

Maj Gen FO Omoigui noted in his opening remarks that the School was in disrepair at the time of his involvement. He claimed that the project’s early completion was accelerated by COAS intervention. Therefore, he expressed his gratitude to the COAS for his generosity and for giving him the project.

The cutting of the commissioning tape, presenting of souvenirs, unveiling of the commissioning plaque, and cultural exhibition were among the event’s highlights.

His Royal Highness Ambassador Ogiemwonyi Airomwambo Enogie of the Utoka Dukedom, Maj. Gen. MG Kangye, Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Army Headquarters Principal Staff Officers, and Brig. Gen. DH Ndahi, Commander of the 4th Brigade, were among the notable guests that attended the event.
