The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya, has charged clerical staff within the Nigerian Army (NA) and sister security agencies on professionalism, improved performance and how to prevent information leaks in their various formations.
The Third Quarter 2022 Office Management and Document Security Workshop for Nigerian Army Clerks, which is taking place at 82 Division Enugu today, Monday, November 6, 2022, was officially opened by the Chief of Army Staff. Gen. Yahaya.
It is a five-day training with the theme”‘Enhancing the Capability of Nigerian Army Clerks for Effective Performance”. The event has participants of about 150-persons.
The purpose of the workshop, according to the COAS who was represented by Maj-Gen Ibrahim Jallo, Director, Manpower Planning, Nigerian Army (NA), was to remind the clerks of the value of protecting military documents in a way that wouldn’t compromise army operations and administration.
He added that the session will introduce attendees to contemporary developments in document security and increase their understanding of how to protect documents, particularly given the rising usage of the internet as a means of message delivery all around the globe.
He said, “I anticipate the session will give you a platform for learning and contributing towards meaningful administration through the timely and secure conveyance of directives, orders, instructions, and other information that supports great administration.”
Since you are involved in every step of the process—including message authoring, typing, revisions, and dissemination—the relevance of clerks in the overall scheme of things is crucial.
“Clerks must consequently use caution while acting so as not to compromise the general sanctity of our procedures”.
He further said that, “These learned individuals, some of whom you may have met while in service, have graciously consented to share their wealth of expertise with us in office administration and document security”.
The COAS lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the Nigerian Army with unwavering support and ensuring that the army men remained highly engaged and productive. Buhari also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the country’s armed forces.
He stated, “I urge you to return this support by remaining motivated and professionally responsive in the performance of your duties.
The General Officer Commanding of the 82nd Division, Maj. Gen. Umar Musa, stated earlier that the workshop’s theme was carefully chosen to reflect the goals and guiding principles of the COAS in his welcome speech.
The GOC made a point of mentioning that the workshop was created to improve the professionalism and operational effectiveness of Nigerian Army clerks.
He then urged the attendees of the workshop to make the most of the chance to enhance both their individual and group capacity for peak performance.
“82 Division was given the chance to host this workshop by the COAS, and the Chief of Administration (Army) was chosen to host it. We are deeply grateful to both of them”. He said.
Participants in the workshop are drawn from the 6, 82 Divisions of the Nigerian Army as well as troops from the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy who are stationed in the 82 Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). Others include employees of the Nigerian Police, NSCDC, FRSC, NDLEA, Customs, Immigration, and Nigerian Correctional Service.
