Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at Muhammadu Buhari Auditorium, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), Benin City, Edo State, officially kicked start the first edition of the Captain to Major Written Promotion Examination for Direct Regular Commission as part of the assessment process for the eligible Nigerian Army officers of the rank of Captain to be promoted to the next rank of Major in the Nigerian Army.
The CMWPE DRC 2023, which aims to close the gaps in professional military education, is the first of its type in NA history, according to the COAS. He stated that the candidates are extremely fortunate to be the test’s first takers, which is consistent with his leadership philosophy and his objective to increase NA personnel’s capability and capacity. The Army Chief reaffirmed that the examination was intended to foster professionalism and competency among all Army commissions, in keeping with his vision of “A professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission within a Joint Environment in Defense of Nigeria.”
He is to make sure that all officers pass the examination and are highly skilled in their particular corps and occupations. Gen Yahaya added that the exam wasn’t designed to “witch-hunt” anyone and was instead supposed to serve as an impartial evaluation that would encourage personal growth and professional advancement. General Yahaya warned applicants of the Captain to Major Examination against engaging in any test malpractice that jeopardizes the established procedures and informed them that doing so would result in their instant disqualification and further disciplinary measures from the military.
Gen. Yahaya praised President Muhammadu Buhari, the commander in chief of the armed forces, for his support of and confidence in the Army. He also praised Maj. Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, the exam chairman and commander of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), for his efforts in ensuring the success of the examinations’ planning. Additionally, he praised the Corps Commander for Supply and Transport and the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport for creating a favorable environment for the exam’s administration..
