The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has restated his commitment to tackling the complex security challenges facing the nation. He emphasized the need to consolidate the achievements of the Nigerian Army in order to overcome the remnants of Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, with the goal of restoring peace in all six geo-political zones and safeguarding lives and property.

During a Sallah luncheon held in Damaturu, Yobe State, to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with troops at the frontlines in Sambisa Forest, Lagbaja expressed his confidence in the troops and urged them to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the Army’s mandate of securing the lives and property of the people. The COAS, represented by Maj. Gen. Mayerenso Saraso, Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), commended the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the Nigerian Army and their families for their dedication and sacrifice.

Lagbaja highlighted the importance of loyalty and professionalism as core values of the Nigerian Army. He acknowledged that his appointment as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff was a calling to bring about change and make a difference in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities. He expressed gratitude to God for His guidance and protection in carrying out their duties to the nation.

The COAS emphasized the significance of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, which represents the values of sacrifice and submission to the will of God, as demonstrated by Prophet Abraham and emulated by Prophet Muhammad. Lagbaja reminded the troops of the sacrifices they make daily to preserve the country’s territorial integrity.

In his command philosophy, Lagbaja outlined his vision of transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force. He commended the troops for their efforts and sacrifices, expressing confidence in their zeal and commitment to combating the multifaceted security threats facing the country. Lagbaja stressed the importance of envisioning, anticipating, and maintaining flexibility in the face of diverse and unpredictable threats.

The COAS pledged to prioritize the welfare of the troops, stating that he would explore all avenues to improve their capabilities in fulfilling their responsibilities. He assured them of his leadership and drive to achieve more success in restoring peace across the country.

With Lagbaja’s determination and the dedication of the Nigerian Army, there is renewed hope for overcoming the security challenges and creating a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians.
