Asaba, Delta State – In a successful operation, combined troops from the Department of State Services (DSS), the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police neutralized two combatants with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). After a violent altercation that took place on July 17, 2023, in the general vicinity of Fuji Junction in Asaba, Delta State, five further people were also captured.

An attack by terrorists on the neighborhood was reported in distress calls, which prompted the joint operation to be started. Quickly responding to the cries, the united soldiers opened fire on the attackers. Two combatants were killed as a result of the military’ ability to outgun the terrorists with overwhelming firepower. The group’s remaining survivors made their way to a hiding place close to the Okpanam River.

The brave soldiers successfully traced the evading criminals to a residence near the Okpanam River, where they were captured, according to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, who verified this in a statement. The soldiers found one AK 47 rifle, one Pump Action Semi-Automatic rifle, 15 live rounds, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver during the operation.

The Nigerian Army implores the general public to keep working with the security agencies by offering information that can be put to use in addressing security issues. The nation’s continued efforts to maintain peace and security depend heavily on the cooperation and support of its inhabitants.

The combined troops were praised for their gallantry by Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who also urged them to maintain the cooperation among the security services. He stressed the need of bringing calm and peace back to the area and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication to guaranteeing the security and welfare of all Nigerians.

The dedication and efficacy of the combined efforts of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and DSS in thwarting terrorist activities and preserving the safety of the country are demonstrated by this successful operation.
