On February 15, 2023, Major- General OT Olatoye, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) Jaji, visited Major-General IM Yusuf, the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), at the Academy Headquarters in Afaka.

Maj-Gen OT Olatoye, who took over as the 17th Commandant of NASI on January 24, 2023, revealed that he visited the NDA to improve the synergy that already exists between the two organizations. Maj-Gen OT Olatoye continued by praising the Commandant NDA for his remarkable accomplishments at the Academy, particularly in the area of the updated training program for Academy cadets. He praised Maj Gen IM Yusuf as a go-getter, a mentor, and a very skilled military giant, and he advised future military leaders to follow in his footsteps.

Maj Gen OT Olatoye was appointed as Commandant NASI, and the Commandant NDA, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, complimented him on the appointment, calling it a “Round Peg In a Round Hole.” Maj Gen Yusuf continued by saying that he is a great supporter of selections made on the basis of qualifications, education, and professionalism—qualities that he noticed are present in the selection of Gen OT Olatoye as Commandant NASI.

The level of cooperation and teamwork maintained between the two institutions also received praise from the NDA Commandant. He went into great detail about the several trainings, including the instructors course, range management, amphibious training, and airborne training that are all part of the cadets’ training. According to him, the updated NDA training program is designed to prepare cadets for the country’s current security issues. In order to develop the best military officers for the Nigerian Armed Forces, he utilized the visit to push the NASI Commandant to view the trainings as shared obligations that should complement one another.

The signing of the visitors’ book, giving out of gifts, and group photo were the highlights of the visit.
