Master Warrant Officer Idris Muhammad, the recently appointed Academy Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), was decorated by Major-General IM Yusuf, the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, today, January 24, 2023. Senior officers, troops, civilian academy employees, as well as the appointed person’s relatives and family, attended the occasion at the NDA Drill Shed Afaka.

The Academy RSM, MWO held from Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, Idris Muhammad was born on April 2, 1972. Before continuing his secondary education at the Government Secondary School Sabon Birni, he attended the Model Primary School Sabon Birni. He joined the Nigerian Army in 1993 as a member of the 35 Regular Intake. The recently appointed Academy RSM took a variety of courses appropriate for his rank and did exceptionally well in most of them. In 2003, he was appointed as a drill instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy. He has held a number of positions since then, including Academy Drill Sergeant, which he held before to being appointed as Academy RSM.

The Nigerian Defence Academy Commandant, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, stated in his remarks that the Academy RSM holds a significant job with a lot of duties. He added that MWO Idris Muhammad meets key requirements, not seniority, which is the basis for the Academy RSM selection process. He continued by saying that MWO Muhammad was chosen and his appointment was authorized by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Farouq Yahaya, out of the many who had been suggested by various Nigerian Army units and had subsequently been questioned in Abuja.

The commandant continued by commending the Academy RSM for his commitment and labor throughout his time there, noting that this led to this current post. The Commandant praised MWO Idris Muhammad for the well-deserved promotion while reassuring that his advancement comes from God. He prayed to God for continued blessings, direction, and protection as he began his new position. After 35 years of exemplary service to the Nigerian Army, AWO Sa’ad Mohammed retired and was replaced by MWO Idris Muhammad.

Highlights of the occasion included the decoration, group photos, and the Academy Adjutant, Lt Col MK Nyiam, reading the new Academy RSM’s resume.
