The Commander 22 Armoured Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General AA Babalola has pledged to partner with the management of kwara State University (KWASU) to maintain peace and security in the institution.
The Commander made this known on Tuesday, 24 January 2023 when the management team of KWASU led by the Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Lukeman Jimoh paid him a courtesy visit at the Brigade Headquarters, Sobi Barracks Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to the commander, putting in place adequate security measures in the institution, will help achieve good and reliable academic environment that will reduce tension among the staff and students.
The Commander who appreciated the management team for their pro-activeness in seeking for security for its staff and students, stressed that the step taken by the team would help prevent security breaches in the school environment. He further applauded the team for the visit, noting that the military will continue to support KWASU in making sure peace is maintained in the institution.
Earlier in his remarks, the VC of KWASU, Professor Lukeman Jimoh said the visit to the Brigade commander was premised on the need to enhance the long standing relationship between the two institutions.
Professor Jimoh who appreciated the Commander for the services he had rendered in maintaining peace in the area since he assumed command, stressed that their coming was also to request for a mutual relationship with the Nigerian Army in order to continue to maintain the relative peace that has been in existence in the institution.
The VC further appealed to the Commander for more military presence around the institution, stating that such gestures would help to deter any criminal tendencies in the area.
While giving vote of thanks on behalf of the team, the Registrar of the university, Dr Kikelomo Wasilat Saleh, thanked the Commander for the warm reception accorded them, adding that the gesture had given the management team the confidence to relate more with the Nigerian Army. She further promised that KWASU will continue to provide more and better educational services to the students in order to raise ambassadors for the nation.
The event which had in attendance the Brigade Commander, staff officers of the Brigade, and management team of KWASU, featured presentation of souvenir, signing of visitors’ book and group photographs.
