Major-General Ibrahim Ali, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has tasked students enrolled in the Junior Course 94 of the Armed Forces Command Staff College (AFCSC) to make effective use of community engagements to successfully eradicate the nation’s security issues.

This was provided in a statement sent to the media by Lieutenant Colonel Ishaku Takwa, the 3 Division Nigerian Army’s acting deputy director of army public relations.

According to Lt. Col. Takwa, the GOC gave the charge while addressing the college students at the Headquarters 3 Division, who were on an operational tour of Jos, Plateau State. General Ali reaffirmed that the nation’s security problems will be significantly lessened by proper engagement with local authorities and pertinent agents.

He disclosed that ongoing community participation led to the recent successes recorded by 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN. Thus, he claimed, non-kinetic actions like sporting and cultural tournaments, stakeholder meetings, as well as the formation of a combined community security intervention committee and vigilantes, are producing fruitful outcomes.

Earlier in his remarks, Director Land Warfare, AFCSC Jaji, Brigadier General IB Maina, the team leader of the visiting officers and students, explained that the Junior Course 94 students were on an operational visit to the 3 Division Joint Operations Area to learn about, and gain experience from the operational activities of 3 Division and OPSH under the leadership of Major General Ali, which he claimed had greatly contributed to peace and security of lives and property.

The operational visit, with the theme “All Society Approach to Tackling Security Challenges,” is intended to raise young officers’ awareness of community-based ways to overcome security challenges, according to the Director.

The Operational Brief on the Activities of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN, as well as the group photo, were the highlights of the operational tour.

Officers from the Nigerian Army, representatives from other security agencies, and foreign students made up the Land Warfare, Junior Course 94 pupils.
