On May 2, the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management’s Nigerian Study Tour Team, which was made up of 36 Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course 1/23 students and six faculty members, paid a visit to DESOPADEC in Warri.
The Team was welcomed by the Acting Director of DESOPADEC, Mr. Ajie Louis, and his Board Members. The Team was led by Colonel JA Emuekpere (rtd). According to the team leader, the purpose of the trip was to introduce the students to the socio-economic, political, and security concerns essential to the development of the State. A study tour with the theme “Enhancing National Security through Socio-Economic Development” has been added.
The Commission was founded by an Act of the State House of Assembly in 2006 as an intervention body to administer 50% of the 13% oil derivation fund from federal allocation, according to the Acting Director during his opening remarks. The Ijaw, Ishekiri, Isoko, Ndokwa, Urhobo, and Ika are among the six ethnic groups that comprised the DESOPADEC, which he also listed. Furthermore, he pointed out that the Board has 16 Departments, 2415 employees, and 19 Area Offices within its purview.
The crew also paid a visit to the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service, where they were greeted by Kelly Oghenewe, the executive director. In his opening remarks, he said that, aside from oil revenue, the board’s primary duty is to generate money for the State.
He added that the Board faced problems, made some progress, and sought a relationship with security agencies, particularly in the areas of pressuring the public to pay taxes on time and protecting the lives of its employees while enforcing the law. An interactive session, the sharing of mementos, and group pictures correspondingly marked the conclusion of each event.
