In commemoration of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023, a public speaking engagement was organized at Command Day Secondary School Lungi Barracks in Abuja. The event aimed to educate secondary school students about the composition of the Nigerian Army (NA) and its responsibilities.

The engagement took place from July 3rd to 4th, 2023, within the Army Headquarters Garrison Area of responsibilities. The students were enlightened on various topics, including patriotism, career opportunities in the NA, criteria and selection process for enlistment into the Nigerian Army, advocacy against cultism, drug and substance abuse, civil-military relations, and developmental projects undertaken by the NA.

The opening remarks were given by the Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General KN Garba, who was represented by the Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel MI Shafa. The commander highlighted the Nigerian Army as the largest component of the Armed Forces, symbolizing unity and uniformity. He emphasized the NA’s responsibility in protecting the country’s territorial integrity through land warfare operations. He encouraged students who aspire to have a career in the Army to contribute to the country’s security and peaceful existence.

To provide students with a visual understanding of the Nigerian Army’s activities, a documentary showcasing the efforts of its dedicated officers and soldiers was aired as part of the celebration. The film aimed to deepen the students’ appreciation for the invaluable service rendered by the Nigerian Army and inspire them to contribute positively to the nation.

The School Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel MI Shafa, hailed the public speaking engagement as an eye-opening and educational experience for the students. He expressed his satisfaction with the informative and enlightening nature of the lecture, affirming that it broadened the students’ horizons and instilled in them a deeper sense of respect for the Nigerian Army.
