According to the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), 100 high-risk financiers of the terrorist organization Boko Haram have been found.

Rauf Aregbesola, the Federal Minister of Interior, said this over the weekend in India at the Third Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing, which has the title “No Money For Terror” as its topic.

According to a statement made by his aide, Abdulmalik Suleiman, on Monday, the funders of Boko Haram have ties to at least ten nations. Additionally, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, or NFIU, has contributed significantly to the support of all of our military, security, and intelligence services, the minister added.

“A crucial advantage for our nation is the NFIU’s exceptional capacity to collaborate with peers in the area and around the globe, particularly under the framework of the Egmont Group of FIUs”.

“In particular, I’d like to spend a few minutes talking about some recent accomplishments made possible by our partners. The NFIU started a thorough investigation into the finances of the Boko Haram organization in 2019.

“This research, which took over 18 months to complete, identified nearly 100 high-risk financiers and found connections to 10 different nations.

“The NFIU used intelligence from a number of nations, including our close neighbors Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Togo, to create a comprehensive picture of the transnational sources of the group’s financing.

In the end, the analysis’s findings led to the arrest of 48 bankers, and some of them are still being prosecuted.
