A one-day sensitization session on fire prevention and management for staff, wives of officers, and soldiers was arranged by the Army Headquarters Team on Fire Prevention and Management on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The conference was held in the Headquarters 2 Division Auditorium in Ibadan.
The seminar’s purpose was to educate and inform staff members and their families about the dangers of fire outbreaks in the barracks and how to prevent them. The program also gave cops and their dependents instructions on how to put out fires when they start.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army Maj Gen Mohammed Usman gave the opening remarks. He was represented by Brig Gen Alexander Tawasimi, Garrison Commander 2 Division. Maj Gen Usman said that the importance of the seminar could not be overstated given the rise in fire incidents at Nigerian Army Barracks. He said that these incidents, which have destroyed property and put the lives of servicemen and their loved ones in jeopardy in the barracks and cantonments, do not exclude the Nigerian Army. He also asked participants to pay close attention in order to get the most out of the sequence of lectures prepared for the seminar.
When making his opening remarks, the Team Leader Brig Gen Bamidele Ogunbunmi emphasized the significance of fire prevention and management and noted that the Chief Of Army Staff package for Nigerian Army personnel included sensitization to help reduce the frequent fire outbreaks in the barracks.
A series of lectures on fire prevention and management/energy awareness, effective fire prevention skills: a panacea to safety of NA personnel and assets, and Nigeria Army policy on energy efficiency were given by Brig Gen Moses Ikobah, Director Fire and Safety Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, and Deputy Superintendent of Fire Ajakaye Olayinka, Resource Person from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan State Command.
The seminar was attended by the chairwoman of the 2 Division Chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Rekiya Usman, as well as officers and soldiers from the 2 Division’s Area of Responsibility.
The seminar’s highlights are the interactive sessions, the distribution of mementos and awards, and the group portrait.
