Force Commander MNJTF Visits Troops, Reiterates Commitment to Bringing Total Peace to Lake Chad Region

Maj-Gen GU Chibuisi, Force Commander visited troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on Monday, April 24, 2023 and reiterated that the MNJTF will not stop until the area is completely at peace.

During his familiarization visit to Sectors 2 and 4 of MNJTF Bagasola Chad, the Force Commander made this statement. The Deputy Force Commander (DFC), Brig Gen Assoualai Blama, and other senior officers accompanied the Force Commander on the tour, according to the Chief Military Public Information Officer for the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Kamarudeen Adegoke.

In his remarks, the FC expressed his gratitude for the friendly welcome and praised the troops for their dedication to putting an end to insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin area. He urged the Sector not to give up on its goals, stressing that the widespread surrender of BH/ISWAP terrorists and their families, which has also been reflected in increased social and economic activity, denotes the beginning of the end for terrorist activities in the Lake Chad Basin region.

The FC continued by saying that in order to establish complete peace to the area, the MNJTF would not take a break. The Sector Commander thanked the FC for coming and pledged to keep up efforts to carry out the MNJTF’s mission.

Force Commander MNJTF visited Sector 4 MNJTF Diffa (Niger) to get acquainted. He was welcomed and properly briefed on the Sector’s actions by Commander Sector 4 Col Maj Mamman Sani Kiaou. The FC stated that the Sector had done a commendable job and praised the Sector for its efforts to weaken the capability of the local terrorists. He praised the Sector’s troops for their high level of discipline, which, in his opinion, was demonstrated by the sector’s notable operational successes. He further ordered them to keep up the pace until the rebels had been fully driven from the Lake Chad Basin. He commended the Sector’s troops for their professionalism and responsiveness in carrying out their duties and promised them of the MNJTF’s ongoing assistance.

The FC was earlier congratulated on his appointment and welcomed with joy by Commander Sector 4 Col Maj Mamman Sani Kiaou. In order to stop terrorist activity in the Lake Chad Basin region, he claimed that the visit has inspired them to take additional action. The Sector will make every effort to bring about complete peace in the area, he continued.

When the FC Maj Gen GU Chibuisi visited the US Army Camp in Diffa, he expressed his gratitude to the US Army for its strategic cooperation in the region’s struggle against terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin. He pleaded for increased teamwork and coordination that will result in the ultimate crackdown on terrorists. The FC was thanked for their visit by Captain Ney of the US Army camp in Diffa, who also underlined the importance of cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The FC also gave His Excellency Smaine Younousse, the governor of the Diffa region, a courtesy visit. In his remarks, Mr. Younousse expressed his gratitude to the FC for the appointment, saying it was well-deserved. He asked the FC to put his vast experience to use in the ongoing struggle with insurgency.

The FC had earlier stated that his goal in making the trip across the sectors was to become acquainted with the local conditions. The FC expressed gratitude to the Governor for continuing to support Sector 4 MNJTF. He pleaded with him to keep giving the assistance required for the campaign against the insurgents to be successful.
