Brig. -General Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, has urged religious institutions and other faith-based organizations to make the fight against drug abuse a regular part of their sermons and evangelistic efforts in order to save the millions of Nigerian youths who are suffering from the scourge of substance abuse and stop many others from falling victim to it.

The charge was given by General Marwa when he met a team from the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS, led by its chairman Sheik Abdullahi Bala Lau, at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja, according to a statement released on Friday by Femi Babafemi.

The NDLEA boss praised the JIBWIBS leadership for their advocacy campaigns against drug abuse through their various platforms but noted that millions of young Nigerians are already struggling with substance abuse and its effects. As a result, he said, all stakeholders must mobilize preventive measures that will save those who have not yet fallen victim to the scourge.

Sheik Lau already commended General Marwa on the numerous well-deserved accolades and prizes he has been receiving as a result of his exceptional performance in the NDLEA. He claims that all of Nigeria’s muslim organizations and ummas value what you are doing. We stand ready to help this agency protect our youngsters from drug-related harm.

He expressed the sect’s resolve to construct a rehabilitation facility in Kaduna to aid the Agency’s efforts there. In addition to this, we have 56 000 non-jummat mosques and over 9,000 Jummat mosques spread out across the nation, through which we will continue to exhort our thronging youth to be good ambassadors of Nigeria.
