In a collaborative effort to bolster the training and development of Nigeria’s security apparatus, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), based in Germany, has launched a five-day workshop for officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The training, titled “Enhancing Training and Development through Optimized and Harmonized Curriculum for Security Agencies,” commenced on Monday, 11/12/2023, at Chalton Hotels and Apartment in Abuja.

The NSCDC was selected for the final phase of the training, aiming to pretest the developed harmonized training manual and trainer’s guide among selected personnel. This initiative by the German foundation underscores its commitment to promoting peace, freedom, and justice through civil and political education and training.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Minister of Interior, commended the choice of NSCDC to pilot the preferred phase of the training manual, emphasizing the importance of synergy with other security agencies. Represented by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the minister urged the selected NSCDC officers to extract valuable experiences from the workshop and apply the acquired skills effectively, setting the stage for further training.

Dr. Audi expressed gratitude to the facilitators of the workshop, emphasizing that the complex security challenges worldwide necessitate well-equipped personnel with adequate training. The NSCDC boss highlighted the importance of continuous learning to enhance the effectiveness of officers in ensuring better security outcomes.

The workshop, named after Konrad Adenauer, the first Christian democratic Chancellor of Germany, focuses on four key areas: interagency collaboration, human rights, civil-military/security officers relations, and the rule of law. The comprehensive training aims to equip NSCDC officers with the necessary skills to navigate evolving security landscapes and contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the nation.
