The Commander of the Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, has called on officer cadets of the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) to remain physically fit, mentally alert and deeply disciplined as they progress in their careers.

He made the call while serving as the Guest of Honour at the senior steeplechase competition for Regular Career Course (RCC) 64 and Short Service Commission/Special Duties (SSC/SD) 65, held on Thursday, 4 December 2025 at the Academy’s Physical Training Grounds.

Describing the annual steeplechase as one of the most significant events on the Academy’s training calendar, Brig Gen Amanor highlighted its impact on building stamina, mental resilience, teamwork, and esprit de corps among officer cadets. He praised the competitors for their grit and determination, noting that their performance reflected both personal discipline and effective training by instructors.

“This competition has demonstrated the need for leaders to be physically fit and mentally alert,” he stated, commending the cadets for displaying commendable endurance and teamwork throughout the challenge.

The Commander also congratulated Abyssinia Company, winners of the 2025 edition of the senior steeplechase.

The event featured a 12-kilometre course, taking cadets through rugged terrain and multiple obstacles designed to test endurance, strength, and composure under pressure.

Several cadets were recognised for exceptional performance.

  • Senior Cadet Leh Kwame emerged as the Overall Best Runner.

  • Senior Cadet Nakoja Magyam Esther received the Best Female Runner award.

  • Senior Cadet Tabre Joseph and Naval Cadet Amexo Frank won 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up positions respectively.
