Four outstanding students from Command Secondary Schools in Mokola, Ibadan, and Ede, Osun State, who excelled in the recent Armed Forces Mathematics Olympiad Competition 2023 held by the Ministry of Defence for Armed Forces Schools in Abuja, have received awards from the General Officer Commanding 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Mohammed Usman.

According to the GOC’s remarks, the purpose of the event is to commend the teachers and students for their efforts and to inspire them to continue working hard. He added that in order to improve the capacity of the instructors at each Command Secondary School in the 2 Division’s Areas of Responsibility, he has hired an educational consultant to conduct a 2-day training program. Maj Gen Usman expressed satisfaction with the kids’ achievements, particularly in mathematics, and assured the pupils that he was ready to provide them generous rewards.

In his welcome remarks, Lieutenant Colonel Thafa Musa, acting director of the 2 Division Education Service, praised the students for their great achievement in the tournament. He also expressed gratitude to the GOC for honoring the worthy students.

The National Mathematics Center Abuja and the Ministry of Defense’s Education Department collaborated to arrange the Olympiad Mathematics competition, according to Mrs. Fumilayo Adeoye, the Zonal Director of Quality Assurance Ministry of Defense.

She added that the Command Day Secondary School in Ibadan, which placed first in the competition, did well, and the Command Secondary School in Ede, which placed third, also did well.

You may remember that the Ministry of Defense hosted the Armed Forces Mathematics Olympiad Competition 2023 in Abuja, inviting 110 Nigerian Armed Forces Schools to compete. The occasion this year took place on March 23, 2023.

The four students who benefited from the scholarship are Showunmi Abdul Somad of CDSS Mokola, Okeke Christopher of CDSS Mokola, and Sofiat Lawal of CDSS Ede.
