Jointness

The jointness and synergy in the field of joint operations have often been emphasized by Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army. The GOC called as he was leading a group of Division commanders and staff officers on a polite visit to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder.

After taking over as the 10th General Officer Commanding, 6 Division Nigerian Army, and following a previous visit by the Commander NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Suleman Dantshoho Ibrahim, to the Division, Lieutenant-Colonel Iweha Ikedichi, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 6 Division Nigerian Army, stated that it was crucial to not only reciprocate the visit but also to put faces behind names and phone numbers because problems are more easily resolved through communication. Officers were given the assignment to emulate the success story that emerged from the connection between service chiefs in the field of joint operations.

The GOC primarily pointed to locations where the armed forces are operating as a team and the successes being recorded, drawing inspiration from Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya’s vision for the army, “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions Within a Joint Environment in Defense of Nigeria.” Instead of dividing or segregating, the various specialties ought to work together, with each service utilizing the resources of the others to meet predetermined goals.

The GOC was acknowledged for the visit and his mentorship throughout the years by the Commander NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Suleman Dantshoho Ibrahim. Despite serving in different capacities, he remembered the pleasant and friendly relationships he had with the GOC.

He praised the friendly relationships between the Division and the Ship while simultaneously promising NNS Pathfinder’s cooperation and assistance for the Division’s operations. He urged the officers to choose role models and emulate them in order to succeed in their careers, citing the General Officer Commanding as an example.

The souvenir exchange and group photos were the highlight of the trip.
