The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army Maj-Gen Muhammed Usman, has ordered the Division’s soldiers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline at all times. At the Division’s Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition’s ending ceremony today, May 25, 2023, at the Nigerian Army Cantonment Ekehuan, Benin City, the GOC charged the troops.
According to General Usman, the competition was planned to ensure that the competitors were well-trained to handle progressively difficult tasks in keeping with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) goal. He reminded the attendees of the significant duties and crucial roles they were supposed to perform.
The GOC expressed confidence that the contest must have helped realize the aim. After the tournament, he stated that he expected all of the soldiers to perform better. He also urged the soldiers to return to their units and formations and put the benefits to good use and to remain discipline.
According to him, the competition was established to ensure that soldiers are properly equipped to take on more difficult tasks and crucial positions, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s overarching strategy. Gen Usman asked the attendees to ensure that the Division remained strong in order to keep the flag of the division flying high in their operational and administrative duties.
His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who was ably represented by Mr. Osagie Asemota, the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Cabinet and Special Services, said during his remarks that the Nigerian Army’s efforts to keep the country safe cannot be overstated because they are clearly seen in Edo State. The Nigerian Army will continue to get support from the Edo State administration for all of its initiatives and activities in the state, he declared.
Throughout the competition, 2 Division Garrison took first place overall, followed by The 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, and 4 Brigade, Benin. The participating formations were the 42 Division Engineers/52 Signal Brigade/Engineer Construction Command, Ibadan; 4 Brigade, Benin; 22 Brigade, Ilorin; 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure; and 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan.
Drills, combat swimming, reading maps, using weapons and shooting, and physical training were the events that were up for competition.
