The Nigerian Army will continue to support athletic events as a way to uphold a friendly connection with the general population, according to Major General Ibrahim Ali, the patron of Rhino Golf and Country Club, General Officer Commanding 3 Division, and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN. At the Maiden Rhino Golf Amateur Tournament’s opening ceremony on January 7, 2023 in Jos, he made this statement.

Lieutenant Colonel Ishaku Takwa, the acting deputy director of army public relations for 3 Division Nigerian Army Jos, stated this in a statement sent to the media.

General Ali said that the competition was the first of its sort since the golf club was founded and that it was intended to promote golf, increase public understanding of the military, foster friendships, and provide potential for new business relationships for the competitors.

The Patron thanked the Chief of Army Staff for consistently leading the Nigerian Army’s operations in a dignified manner and noted that major infrastructure upgrades had recently been made to the golf course, making it unique and fascinating for both amateur and professional play.

The Special Guest of Honor, Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong, praised the GOC/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN for his leadership style and the quick infrastructure development at Rhino Golf and Country Club while he was commissioning recently completed projects at the golf course.

The governor reiterated his support for security agencies and thanked the military for progressively restoring the state to its former glory of peace and tourism while being represented by the Commissioner for Information for Plateau State, Hon. Dan Manja.

Colonel Haruna Bala, the Captain Rhino Golf and Country Club Jos, asked the participants earlier in his welcome speech to show true sportsmanship and make new friends.

The commissioning of a practice range, caddy hut, waiting shade, starter hut, and green area were the event’s highlights.

Senior military officers, both active duty and retired, government representatives, the leaders of various security agencies, captains of industries, directors, and rivals from within and outside of Jos all attended the ceremony.
