Governor Lalong Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes, Thanks General Ali for Peace restoration in Plateau

His Excellency Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, the governor of Plateau State, has paid respect to Nigeria’s fallen heroes who gave their lives to preserve the country’s stability, peace, and unity. This was done to remember the commemoration of 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) that took place in the Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat Jos today, 15 January 2023.

The Governor joined other officials from the state in laying a wreath at the cenotaph to cap the celebration of this year’s AFRD. Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Sanda; Chief Judge of Plateau State, His Lordship Justice David Gwong Mann; General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali; Commander 551 NAF Station, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet; Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bartholomew Onyeaka; and the Gbong representative were among the dignitaries who also laid wreaths

The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, the previous Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. ACC Agundu (ret. ), Gen. Temlong (ret. ), representatives of the Plateau State Government, prominent military officers—both active-duty and retired—as well as invited guests—were also present at the march.

Speaking at the luncheon held at the Rhino Officers’ Mess following the parade, the Governor of Plateau State, effectively represented by the State’s Deputy Governor Professor Sonni Tyoden, thanked the departing GOC 3 Division Maj Gen Ibrahim Ali for restoring peace and unity to the Plateau and urged everyone to remember the bravery of the fallen heroes.

As a reward for his efforts and dedication, he also referred to Gen Ali’s nomination as the Theatre Commander of OPERATION HADIN KAI. He sent him his best wishes as he took on a more difficult task. The Plateau State Government will continue to support efforts to establish enduring peace on the Plateau, he added promised the military and other security services.

In addition, the GOC Maj-Gen Ali thanked everyone in attendance for attending and prayed for the souls of our fallen warriors.

As part of the celebrations, the Interdenominational Church Service was held at St. Monica’s Catholic while Juma’at prayer was held in the Jos Central Mosque.
